It may seem obvious to some what an estimate for a new bathroom includes. But for those who are embarking on either their first bathroom remodel or a larger project than in the past, we recap below what you can expect to include when you invest in your upgrade.
The biggest expense in a custom bathroom remodel is typically the labor (especially when it involves a gut renovation or a change in the layout). If you have an older home, you should budget for new plumbing and electrical upgrades. An estimate will include all materials and labor. Check out the list below.
All Labor to demo/gut, re- build, repair or replace items such as walls, ceiling, support beam, rough-in plumbing (pipes, fittings and water lines). Labor includes the removal of all existing cabinets, floor, tile, countertops, light fixtures, old fixtures, etc.. Floor leveling too.
Installation - Cabinets, floor, radiant heat, wall tiles, lighting/electrical, plumbing fixtures (sink/shower/bath), radiant heat.
Dumpster for demolition
All construction materials (sheet rock, sub floor, etc..)

Countertop - separate or included with cabinetry
Hardware (can be separate or included)

11. Electrical work - Add, Update, Repair, Install.
12. Light fixtures
13. Radiant heat material
14. Accessories such as grab bars, shower bench/seat, hooks, medicine cabinet/mirror, light switch plates, towel bars, toilet paper holder, shelves, door handles,
15. Paint/Spackle/Repair
16. Molding - Remove, replace, paint
17. Windows - Move, replace, repair.
Actual budgets can change based on what the contractor finds behind walls or under floors. Electrical and plumbing can add expense if they are found to be sub-par and need replacement. Termite damage can be another big expense not known when the estimate is created. Mold remediation as well as asbestos removal are unforeseen as well. Water damage is also possible from leaking pipes throughout the years.
