Some home improvement trends are meant to continue since they help families live a more comfortable, fun and safe life at home. Then there are trends that fall flat - whether it be a fashion faux pas, safety issue or just plain silly.
Trends that will continue into 2025 plus new home style trends.
1. New Kitchens including Open Concept Kitchens - Kitchen renovations will continue to be a #1 renovation goal for homeowners. We keep hearing that the open concept design trend is ending. We don't agree. Homeowners have not stopped coming to us wanting an open concept kitchen and dining plan. Perhaps the open concept kitchen/living room is what the articles claiming that open concept is over, are referring to. With our lifestyles becoming more family focused, open concept designs inspire us to do multiple activities in one space. Togetherness is still a trend!
2. White and wood (or color) tone kitchens - While all white kitchens have decreased in popularity, white and wood tone (or blue, green) kitchens are a huge design favorite of Long Islanders and New York City dwellers. Stylish white perimeter cabinets with a deep wood tone or color island has become our top seller - modern, transitional or traditional. This combination allows the brightness white offers coupled with a rich toned island adding great character to the space. Some people like to add another touch of color in the tall cabinets, matching the island color. Slab doors are gaining popularity on Long Island and remain popular in NYC.
3. Outdoor Kitchens - They keep expanding! More consumers are increasing their decks, adding outdoor cabinets, fridges and sinks to their BBQ area. They are also investing in furniture upgrades and canopies. Adding an outdoor bar has gained mom
4. Matching countertops and back-splash - Still popular. We see half our projects continuing to follow this trend. The clean look and ease of cleaning is why.
5. Modern Bathrooms - Bathroom remodels will continue to be a top priory in 2025. Modern bathrooms are pretty and easy to clean. Creating a spa like feeling is still desired.
6. Extensions - Since many people have chosen to stay where they are, many are willing to invest the money to expand their space. Some homeowners add an extension on the first floor while others add a second floor. Many use the space for a larger kitchen while others add bedrooms for parents or a family entertainment room.
7. Styles - Mixed metals, Japandi earth tones (browns, greens, terracotta, plum), outdoors inside, handmade unique artwork/pottery are wonderful continuing trends that make a home feel lived in. Trends that will NOT continue into 2025
Open Shelving in Kitchens - People find they become dust and souvenir collectors. Too messy looking and annoying to dust.
Minimalist Decor - People are leaving the stark minimalist, colorless rooms behind for more warmth, depth and bold colors in their home.
One style through-out the home - We have experienced clients who have a traditional home style but want a modern kitchen. Yet they decide not to have a modern kitchen designed and installed because they think they should stay with one style. Well, thankfully, that thought trend has died on the vine. Mixing styles within the home is fun and exciting! Designers even go as far as having multiple styles within one room. The bottom line is finding a way to add your personal touch to every room, whether it be modern, traditional, transitional, country, French, Italian, Japanese.... etc.. Whatever style delights you!
All white or all gray interiors - The trend to keep rooms neutral has petered out. Homeowners are opting for colorful walls and complementary furniture, pillows, decorations. They are steering more towards cheerful or moody lived in spaces,
All white kitchens - As mentioned above, all white is out. In kitchens, some homeowners may choose white for the perimeter (no matter the style) and a dark wood color, blue or green for an island and/or base cabinets. All wood tone kitchen cabinets are trending into 2025 as well.
